NaPoWriMo Day 11
Ode to Penguins
With wings that never graced the air
You hop and waddle everywhere
As ‘cross the windswept ice you fare
Though freezing for your egg you care.
On land you’re graceless as can be
A bowling pin with wings we see
No humans want your land you’re free
And you are always safe with me.
Though you can barely walk, can’t fly
No other bird could hope to try
To with your grace the water ply
Beneath the waves go flashing by
No other bird could face such cold
The fiercest winds you face so bold
Your egg above the ice to hold
You are amazing I’ve been told.
I dream one day I’ll see your kind
That penguin land I’ll one day I find
When I have left all warmth behind
Because I’ve lost my tiny mind.
Cheers,
