Personal Poetry Challenge Day Forty -Nine

Self acceptance and self worth are really important to me.  That’s why they are recurring themes in my writing.  I was bullied when I was young and it took me a long time to find those things for myself.  If my words can help just one person to find their own sense of self worth…. I couldn’t ask for any better reward.

Love Poem For Yourself

There’s beauty in this would of ours,
It’s what makes life worthwhile.
It’s in the bloom of every rose,
And every childs smile.

It’s in the eye of he who looks,
Not all will feel the same.
If someone judges how you look,
It’s them who should feel shame.

You must be true to who you are,
And what you feel inside.
You’ll lose yourself by thinking that,
Your truth you have to hide.

No one can tell you who you are,
Or who you have to be.
You are the one to make that choice,
So look inside and see.

Some may not like may not agree,
With choices that you make.
But they’ve no right to make you change,
Or freedom from you take.

There’s beauty in this world of ours,
It’s there in who you are.
So to yourself you must be true,
Head high you are a star.

Personal Poetry Challenge Day Forty-Eight

A friend of mine is going through a rough time.  Trying to help them keep things in perspective inspired today s verse.  The message is…. hold to hope but do what’s needed to get through the situation.

A Life Of Storms

The storm winds blow the clouds roll in,
The thunderheads amass.
But don’t forget the fiercest storms,
Must also one day pass.

So when life’s seas are wracked with storms,
And seem to rough to sail,
Within your heart know it can’t last,
Hold fast to hope and bail.

There’ve been some times life’s challenged me.
Despair my only friend.
But time brings change and over time,
Pain and despair did end.

The storms blow out the seas will calm,
Your life will sail on.
Pain not forgot but muted so,
Despair and fear are gone.

So think of this when you are tossed,
Upon life’s stormy seas.
The worst of it must one day pass,
So hope and bail please.

Personal Poetry Challenge Day Forty- Seven

I’m a little late with my post tonight. I just got home from a “Stag & Doe” for a couple of very dear friends of mine. This one’s for them…. Enjoy!

Mike & Candy

Two people who are so in love,
It makes me smile to see.
My friends I had an awesome time,
Touched you invited me.

Your love’s so very obvious,
You make me think of mine.
I wish you every happiness,
A life lived on cloud nine.

You’re young and you have much to learn,
And so much life to live.
If I had just one gift for you,
It’s this advice I’d give.

Remember then what you feel now,
For this is what is real.
Forget your anger and each hurt,
Your love is all that’s real.

Cheers, Winston …. Love you both.

Personal Poetry Challenge Day Forty-Six

I watched a piece on TV tonight about genetic research and where some of it is headed.  Then I turned off the television to write todays poem.  After staring blank the screen of my phone for a while I asked Lynn (my personal muse) what to write about.  She thought about it for about a minute and said “Why not what we just watched?”

Gods Own Game

Very soon now we’ll have the tools,
To change our very genes.
But is this something we should do,
Regardless of the means.

If we can end genetic ills,
Some see a duty there.
But those same tools can also set,
A deadly future snare.

If we can build perfection then,
Who else would get to mate?
How fair would an election be,
‘Gainst custom candidate?

If you could save your child from,
A lifetime of disease,
Would you still say they must stop or,
Say sign me up now please?

So while our guts may say one thing,
And knee-jerk says the same,
Let’s not forget there are more sides,
When playing Gods own game.

Personal Poetry Challenge Day Forty-Five

Trailer season is starting again.  Means that I will once more be measuring time in terms of how long ’til I get to go back.

My Happy Place

This coming week my season starts,
We head back to the lake.
We’ll open up our trailer then,
Our love of peace to slake.

To sit upon my deck and watch,
The jays and finches fly.
While chipmunks madly rush about,
And skunks go ambling by,

The Trilliums will be in bloom,
They paint the hillside white,
And up above ten trillion stars,
Look down on us each night.

Our neighbours are a pleasant lot,
They gather by the fire.
And as they drink the volume of,
Their songs keeps getting higher.

I’m looking forward to the days,
With feet up on my deck.
We have an awning so the rain,
Cannot my downtime wreck.

So come the Monday I will be,
Back in my happy place.
And all my oares and all my woes,
It’s peace will then erase.

Personal Poetry Challenge Day Forty-Four

No question of what to write about tonight.  It’s all about Lynn.  She is my muse, my angel, and my one true love.

This is for her.  Enjoy!

My Loving Angel.

I lost myself when I found you,
You’re all I have looked for.
I knew my center now was here,
When I walked though your door.

You take the best that is in me,
And bring it to the top.
You see so much that I do not,
Your faith I must not drop.

With all your love and your belief,
I push myself along.
When I lose faith and can’t qo on,
It’s you that keeps me strong.

So I just want to give my thanks,
Without you I’m a mess.
So thank you for my purpose now,
Thank you my love God bless.

Cheers, Winston

Personal Poetry Challenge Day Forty-Three

I had no idea in mind when I started writing.  I just started writing and let it flow.  Curious what people think.

Where To From Here?

A flash of silver in the night,
A body slowly cools.
The one who did this feels no guilt,
They just enforce the rules.

The body lying in the street,
Once took lives for their Queen.
But then they took lives they should not,
Knew well what that would mean.

When their death came they did not fight,
Knew that this had to be.
It is a price they gladly pay,
To save their family.

The Queen has many enemies,
Has ordered many killed.
And now the one who did these deeds,
Their lifeblood has been spilled.

And yet the Queen who ordered all,
Still sits upon her thrown.
While her victims families,
Still struggle on alone.

But though she lives her time grows short,
Her greatest weapon dead.
Her enemies are at the gate,
She knows they want her head.

But what she knows that they do not,
As bad as she may seem.
What they will get when they have won,
Is worse than they can dream.

For that is often how it goes,
The devil that you know.
Is all you see so all you fear.
Unknown should be more so.

But they will cast her order down,
Have chaos in the street.
The one who takes the reins from them,
Their very souls shall eat.

Personal Poetry Challenge Day Forty-Two

While I was at Comiccon, I had the opportunity to meet one of the Canadian candidates for the private sector mission to Mars.  Talking him inspired this….

The Next Martians

A flaming pillar reaches up,
Another group has gone,
To meet the ship that they will take,
To push our species on.

They go to Mars will not come back,
There to live out their days.
That’s where their children will be born,
Or so the brochure says.

But there’s no guarantee of kids,
No guarantee of life.
But they had dreamed a better dream,
A world without strife.

They seek to build a world new,
A future home for man.
Success is never guaranteed,
At least they try to plan.

So wish them well those few brave souls,
Godspeed upon their trip.
We wish them well and wish them safe,
As through the void they zip.

Perhaps one day we’ll join them there,
More likely further on.
The second wave, the third and then,
A home beyond the dawn.

So look to them our future now,
Think now of what they give.
They leave the planet of their birth,
One day on Mars to live.

Personal Poetry Challenge Day Forty-One

Today being Mother’s Day, you get one guess what today’s post is about…. That’s right …. Comiccon!

Not even close 😀

Miss you Mom.  Love you Lynn.  Thank you to all the Mother’s in my life.

Ode To Our Mothers

There is a person that you know,
No one is quite the same.
The truth is no one’s even close,
‘Cause Mother is her name.

She is the one who knows you best,
And never lets you down.
She is the queen of her domain,
Although she has no crown,

She is the cook the nurse and maid,
The maths tutor as well.
She chauffeurs kids to everything,
Though traffic is like hell.

Her love is unconditional,
Will last through any pain,
And every time life knocks her down,
She gets back up again.

So stop today and take the time,
Thank her for all she’s done.
Be sure she knows how much she’s loved,
Make sure she has some fun.

Happy Mother’s Day, Winston

Personal Poetry Challenge Day Forty

Tonight I decided it’s time to revisit the supernatural side of things again.  Possibly from spending the last couple of days at the Ottawa Comiccon .

Ancient, Inevitable, Darkness

The nightmare stalks, it haunts this place,
More dreadful than you know.
So many now have come and gone,
A dark seeps from below.

There’s hands that grab or push or slap,
Footsteps where none are seen.
There’s things that move or disappear,
Things that could not have been.

The lights turn on the lights turn off,
When none are in the room.
And more than this there is an air,
Of dark, oppressive gloom.

We do not know what walks within,
Walked there before we came.
No matter what we think we know,
Less certain than we claim.

No one can stay within this house,
Though some will always try.
No matter who no matter what,
If they don’t flee they die.

It has been there so very long,
Been there since times untold.
Has watched and waited all that time,
For it’s plans to unfold.

Do not go man this ancient house,
Avoid it’s shadowed door.
Pray what’s within remain within,
Trapped there forever more.

Cheers, Winston
