NAPOWRIMO Day 25

Don’t Mind My Mind

Oh what a wonder is the mind,
Its so full of fears and dreams.
It’s wider , higher, deeper and,
So much larger than it seems,

It’s every God that ever was,
And the Goddesses as well.
It’s every heaven ever dreamed,
And it gave us every hell.

The mind is what DaVinci used,
It let Rembrandt do his thing.
And minds wrote every single song,
That the greatest voices sing.

All the beauty and the horror,
All the things you love or ban.
Do not come from Gods or Devils,
Only from the minds of man,

So keep all your religions,
For from this I’m truly free.
Not controlled by your illusions,
What I am is up to me.

Cheers, Winston

NAPOWRIMO Day 23

Clerks Are People Too

I want you all to understand,
Next time you’re in a store.
That just because we don’t yell back,
You don’t need to yell more.

You are displeased this much I get,
Care less with every shout.
The more you rage the less I hear,
Just what you’re on about.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great,
You’ve brought your issue here.
We’re sales here not tech support,
How can I make this clear?

You think that if you yell at us,
We’ll give all you demand.
But even if I could I won’t,
That you don’t understand.

So if you come into my store,
Want any help from me.
Your anger and your attitude,
You’d best leave home you see.

Cheers, Winston

NAPOWRIMO Day 15

We Are Cyberspace

A billion things, a billion more,
And still there’s more to see.
It’s anything to anyone,
the internet to me.

There’s superstars, there’s nobodies,
The famous and unknown.
It doesn’t matter who you are,
You’ll never be alone,

There’s legal things, illegal things,
Some things are in between.
There’s beauty there and ugliness,
And things best left unseen.

There’s toys and tools, shops and stores,
And galleries galore.
You think you’ve found your ultimate,
But wait there’s something more.

If social media’s your thing,
This place invented it.
And if you’re bored, want something new,
Just wait around a bit

A billion things, ten billion more,
Spread out in cyberspace.
A glimpse into the heart and soul,
Of this the human race.

Cheers, Winston.

NAPOWRIMO Day 14

The Immigrants Lament

Don’t stop, don’t stay, just move along,
There’s no place for you here.
Though we all came from somewhere else,
You’re different so we fear.

Your ways are not like how we live,
We will not change for you.
Though we changed those were here before,
When we got here it’s true.

So we will tell you how to live,
Don’t think that you are free.
To build the lives you want to build,
That’s not how this will be.

So stay at home do not come here,
Unless you’re just like us.
Don’t talk of rights for they’re all ours,
No use to cause a fuss.

The choice is yours to stay or come,
But know before you start.
There’s some folks here so bigoted,
It’s like to break your heart.

So if you come then come with strength,
Enough to withstand hate.
And build your life and live your dream,
And make your future great.

Cheers, Winston

NAPOWRIMO Day 7.

Celebrate! Ignore The Hate!

No flowers, cake or dress for you,
‘Cause this book says you’re bad.
Some think that that’s how things should be,
And that is very sad.

They blame a God, a book, a faith,
For their hard-hearted state,
They talk a lot about Gods love,
But then they act from hate,

It seems your wedding was so wrong,
You’ve broken marriage now.
A love so strong, a love so true,
Has threatened theirs somehow.

So let them rant and let them fuss,
Don’t ever let them win.
For what you have is precious, rare,
Could never be a sin.

Cheers, Winston.

NAPOWRIMO Day 2.

We’re All In This Together
(Except For Those Who Aren’t)

Dreaming the days go drifting by,
A bit of truth in each.
Some grasp the dream and take from it,
The lesson it would teach.

So many more are lost to it,
Content to blindly sleep.
They push the dream of truth aside,
Let life it’s secrets keep.

“What good” they ask “can come from this?”
No good they say just pain.
Refusing truth they cannot see,
In ignorance remain.

Dreaming the days go drifting by,
All life about it s tasks.
And now and then some sleepers stir,
And see beyond their masks.

They’ve seen some truth, some tiny part,
Cannot remain unchanged.
But those awake, to those asleep,
Must surely seem deranged.

The choice is “Treatment” drugs and pain,
Or just go back to sleep.
And in their dreams they glimpse the truth,
And in their slumber weep.

Persona Poetry Challenge Day Sixty-Seven

Had some really obnoxious people in the store lately.  One in particular was especially rude to my co-worker Mike.  Mike is one of the most genuinely sweet people I know, so to be treated this way far no reason really upset him.

Mike…. this one’s for you.

Don’t Back Down

Some people think that being rude,
Will get them what they seek.
So cruelty is their go to,
Most every time they speak.

They’re only happy with themselves,
When they are being mean.
They are so insecure they fear,
If nice they won’t be seen.

They only think about themselves,
Don’t care who else they hurt.
The only way to mask their fear,
Is treat someone like dirt.

It’s almost sad to understand,
Just why they are this way.
But almost doesn’t justify,
The vile things things say.

They choose to hurt and to abuse,
They choose who they will be.
And my choice is to stand my ground,
No longer bullied be.

Cheers, Winston

Personal Poetry Challenge Day Fifty-Eight

I was thinking about the plans for a one-way trip to Mars.  I changed the setting, but here are my thoughts on it.

Enjoy!

Why we Go

A land that I have never seen,
Lies far beyond the sea.
My love I wonder would you come,
Explore that land with me.

I’ve heard that there are dragons there,
Who guard their troves of gold.
A waterfall a thousand feet,
Such wonders to behold.

No one’s returned or so they say,
That’s clearly not the case.
For if no one returned from there,
Who told us of that place?

There’s people there or so I’ve heard,
Like none we’ve ever seen.
And creatures strange and marvelous,
As any creature’s been.

The future here is limited,
You’ll be what you are now.
But come with me and you can grow,
And find yourself somehow.

A world we can call our own,
To build a brand new life.
A world unclaimed where life is free.
From all our daily strife.

So fly across the sea with me,
We’ll build a life anew.
There’s nothing there that we can’t face,
My love if I’m with you.

Cheers, Winston

Personal Poetry Challenge Day Thirty-Seven

I work in a cell phone store so I often hear about new tech is destroying people’s ability to communicate.  This always makes me a little crazy. You see I grew up without even a phone.  Trust me, I know a thing or two about living in a simpler time.

It’s Fear The Future

A lot of ink gets spilled these days,
‘Bout our pervasive tech.
Midst all the furor where’s the voice,
Just says, “Meh, what the heck.”

It’s not the end, it’s just begun,
Like every time before.
And as things change they stay the same,
And then they change some more.

Yet every time things change it seems,
Some lose themselves to fear.
No matter what the benefits,
Some just refuse to hear.

They close their ears and close their minds,
They just refuse to think.
Then when the world has passed them by,
They want to cause a stink.

But good old days were not that good,
Let’s not do that again.
I lived like that when I was young
Like now much more than then.

So just remember technophobes,
The tech is not to blame.
It’s what you do when you get it,
That messes up the game.

So when your teen insists on texts,
No matter how you hate.
Don’t think that this must mean the end,
Text back communicate.

Cheers, Winston

NaPoWriMo Day Twenty-Nine

I asked my muse what to write about today, and she suggested the idea of….

Paying It Forward

An act of kindness once it’s done,
Can echo far and wide.
But that is not it’s true reward,
For that is felt inside.

Some do some grand, impressive act,
In hope of gaining fame.
But in the end it’s just an act,
Their kindness is a game.

They think to score some points somehow,
They just don’t understand.
When kindness is it’s own reward,
No benefit is planned.

Some cannot see and will not hear,
The truth within their hearts.
The greater good is greater still,
When honest giving starts.

So lend a hand or give some time,
To help someone today.
And when they ask you who you are,
“Just pass it on.” you say.

Cheers, Winston
