NaPoWriMo 2022 Day 7

I know I already did a Spring poem, but it is my favourite season, and I am at work trying to squeeze today’s poem in between actual work stuff. So another poem about spring. Also, it is raining today and I’m not normally a fan, but by looking at it as a process of renewal, I am much more tolerant of being cold and wet.

Come Celebrate

Come celebrate the rising sun,
Now greet this brand new day.
There is breeze goes sighing by.
To bring spring scents your way.

Come celebrate the low grey clouds,
The rain where you now stand.
To wash away the winter’s dross,
Reveal greener land.

Come celebrate all growing things,
It is that time of year.
When life returns to root and bloom,
Replacing winter drear.

Come celebrate the evening chill,
The blaze is large and hot.
Come celebrate the spring with me,
Give thanks for all we’ve got.

Come celebrate this life we share,
How blessed we truly are.
Let spring renew the souls in us,
For we have come so far.

Come celebrate, come celebrate,
This greatest time of year.
It’s spring I love and always have,
Come celebrate my dear.

NaPoWriMo Day 30

Today is the last of April and so the last day of NaPoWriMo. It’s true, I haven’t made any effort to follow the writing prompts, but I have written 30 poems this month. In that spirit, I feel entitled to a little celebration. To everyone who made it this far, Congratulations! To everyone who participated, Thank you so much for sharing your words with the rest of us!

THE FINAL VERSE…….?

Oh day of days, this final day,

Relief through me does flow.

Though I rejoice to see it done,

I’ll miss it now I know.

I’ve sweated and I’ve cursed it and,

I’ve dreaded each new day.

Dreaded knowing sometime I must,

Run out of things to say.

But here I am and finally,

My tortured brain may rest.

Though I’ve not writ some epic ode,

I’ve done my very best.

Now every time I try to speak,

I spout some silly rhyme.

If I can’t break this habit I,

May lose my mind in time.

So pop the cork and fill the glass,

We’ve made it one more year.

To everyone who shared their voice,

Who overcame their fear.

I thank you for the words you’ve shared,

For every line you’ve penned.

I wonder if like me you both,

Dread and applaud the end.

But stick around, don’t go just yet,

There’s more to come you see.

There’s writing and there’s artworks and,

More little bits of me.

Cheers, Winston

NaPoWriMo Day 21

I’m not sure why, but I seem to be on a bit of a nature kick this month. Maybe it’s because every time I turn around another piece of it’s been cut down, dug up or plowed over. Whatever the reason, I hope you enjoy todays poem 🙂

SEE THE BEAUTY

“Good morning!” Says the sun to me,

As I bask in it’s light.

When day is done and time for sleep,

The moon tells me “Goodnight.”

Throughout the day the world speaks,

To those who wish to hear.

“Enjoy the wonders all around,

And hold all nature dear.”

We love majestic views and such,

High peaks or ocean shore.

But nature’s beauty’s all around,

We’re missing so much more.

The light that sparkles from the wings,

Of a small dragon fly.

A swallow’s endless grace as it,

Goes swooping through the sky.

The patterns of the insects on,

The surface of a pond.

These and ten million more are there,

But we just look beyond.

Now take a look and really see,

What’s right in front of you.

ALL nature is quite beautiful,

And now you see it’s true.

Cheers, Winston

NaPoWriMo Day 19

It’s Easter. For a lot of people, myself included, that means a long weekend. As often happens, it’s raining. Here in the capital of Canada, that is often the case. It’s spring and spring means rain. I don’t mind much because it’s actually my favourite time of the year.

WELCOME SPRING

I look outside at overcast,

And steady, falling rain.

And stop and think, it’s not so bad,

‘Cause spring is here again.

If April showers bring May flowers,

Then they should be here soon.

The beauty only grow each day,

Right through the end of June.

Then summer’s here with hotter days,

It is a different thing.

Of all the seasons of the year,

My favourite one is spring.

To watch the world wake up once more,

From it’s long winter sleep.

Watch barren trees begin to green,

As sap does upward creep.

Returning birds with joyous sound,

Greet every new days dawn.

And every day new wonders brings,

As spring comes slowly on.

So keep the summer’s blist’ring heat,

The autumn’s winding down.

And blinding sun on winter’s snow,

Just makes me squint and frown.

No give me spring, new life, rebirth,

Now babies, blooms and bees.

My heart is filled with joy each year,

When spring it finally sees.

Another Awesome Day

My niece Tammy is visiting from Sudbury, which is very cool.  I haven’t seen much of her since I moved to Ottawa in ’97.    We are really close, so it’s nice to have her here.  Of course, as I mentioned last time, I’ve just started a new job so not much time off during her visit.  Good news is, she and Lynn also get on quite well so they’ve been having a great time anyway.

Today was one of my days off so Lynn, Tammy, Cynthia packed a picnic lunch and spent the day at the Victoria Memorial Museum of Nature.   It’s a beautiful museum filled with amazing exhibits.  All of us thoroughly enjoyed it and had an incredible day.

There was one glitch. I left Lynn’s camera in the men’s room.  I didn’t realize this until we were walking to the car at the end of the day.  I ran back inside, ran up four (tall) stories worth of stairs only to discover it gone.  Not a warm fuzzy moment.

Did I mention this was my wife’s camera.   Lynn really enjoys photography and gets very attached to her cameras.  You can imagine my dismay as I set off for the security office to report a lost camera.

On my way, I stopped to ask a guard for directions.  He asked what I had lost and where.  When I told him, he asked me to accompany him to the security office.  I was expecting to fill out paperwork.  Instead, he opened the safe and retrieved my wife’s camera.  Someone had found it and turned it in.  Thank you kind stranger whoever you are.  You just earned yourself a LOT of good karma!

And so, a great day was saved.

Tomorrow Tammy and I are off to the National Gallery.  We’ll see how that goes.  Hopefully, crisis free.

Cheers, Winston

Another Glorious Autumn Day

Yes, that is part of what made my day glorious.  Followed two of these through the bush of about twenty minutes.  Took a ton of pictures.  Really low light on the edge of dusk under the trees, so jacked up the ISO.  Made things a little grainy, but hey, it’s not a shot I get every day.

Other than that, spent the day with Lynn and Chester.  Sat by the lake on our campground and took pictures of my dog.  Went into Perth and took pictures of the park with the fall colors, people napping in the sun, etc.

I don’t have time to convert them to .jpg, so I’ll post more of them tomorrow.  Suffice to say, another wonderful fall day.
