NaPoWriMo 2022 Day 7

I know I already did a Spring poem, but it is my favourite season, and I am at work trying to squeeze today’s poem in between actual work stuff. So another poem about spring. Also, it is raining today and I’m not normally a fan, but by looking at it as a process of renewal, I am much more tolerant of being cold and wet.

Come Celebrate

Come celebrate the rising sun,
Now greet this brand new day.
There is breeze goes sighing by.
To bring spring scents your way.

Come celebrate the low grey clouds,
The rain where you now stand.
To wash away the winter’s dross,
Reveal greener land.

Come celebrate all growing things,
It is that time of year.
When life returns to root and bloom,
Replacing winter drear.

Come celebrate the evening chill,
The blaze is large and hot.
Come celebrate the spring with me,
Give thanks for all we’ve got.

Come celebrate this life we share,
How blessed we truly are.
Let spring renew the souls in us,
For we have come so far.

Come celebrate, come celebrate,
This greatest time of year.
It’s spring I love and always have,
Come celebrate my dear.

NaPoWriMo Day 21

I’m not sure why, but I seem to be on a bit of a nature kick this month. Maybe it’s because every time I turn around another piece of it’s been cut down, dug up or plowed over. Whatever the reason, I hope you enjoy todays poem 🙂

SEE THE BEAUTY

“Good morning!” Says the sun to me,

As I bask in it’s light.

When day is done and time for sleep,

The moon tells me “Goodnight.”

Throughout the day the world speaks,

To those who wish to hear.

“Enjoy the wonders all around,

And hold all nature dear.”

We love majestic views and such,

High peaks or ocean shore.

But nature’s beauty’s all around,

We’re missing so much more.

The light that sparkles from the wings,

Of a small dragon fly.

A swallow’s endless grace as it,

Goes swooping through the sky.

The patterns of the insects on,

The surface of a pond.

These and ten million more are there,

But we just look beyond.

Now take a look and really see,

What’s right in front of you.

ALL nature is quite beautiful,

And now you see it’s true.

NaPoWriMo Day 19

It’s Easter. For a lot of people, myself included, that means a long weekend. As often happens, it’s raining. Here in the capital of Canada, that is often the case. It’s spring and spring means rain. I don’t mind much because it’s actually my favourite time of the year.

WELCOME SPRING

I look outside at overcast,

And steady, falling rain.

And stop and think, it’s not so bad,

‘Cause spring is here again.

If April showers bring May flowers,

Then they should be here soon.

The beauty only grow each day,

Right through the end of June.

Then summer’s here with hotter days,

It is a different thing.

Of all the seasons of the year,

My favourite one is spring.

To watch the world wake up once more,

From it’s long winter sleep.

Watch barren trees begin to green,

As sap does upward creep.

Returning birds with joyous sound,

Greet every new days dawn.

And every day new wonders brings,

As spring comes slowly on.

So keep the summer’s blist’ring heat,

The autumn’s winding down.

And blinding sun on winter’s snow,

Just makes me squint and frown.

No give me spring, new life, rebirth,

Now babies, blooms and bees.

My heart is filled with joy each year,

When spring it finally sees.

The S**w Is Here Again!

That’s right folks, it’s that time of the year again here in the National Capitol Region.  Time to break out the toques, mitts, shovels and Tylenol Back pills.  I’ve just shoveled my drive for the first time this year.  Yay!

Don’t get me wrong, I love the s**w.  I just love it a lot more when it’s somewhere else.  It’s beautiful.  It’s just a lot more beautiful when seen on a nature documentary.  There’s some absolutely gorgeous shots of it in the Planet Earth series from the BBC.  Also their Wild China series has some beautiful s**w in it as well.

When I was a kid, I went sliding, and skiing and such.  I built s**w forts and had s**wball fights with my siblings.  I also didn’t have to shovel a driveway either.  Or clean off a car before going to work.

On the other hand, I did have to tramp through the s**w carrying firewood or water.  I did have to drag wood out of the bush through thigh-deep s**w.  Hmmmmm…… maybe that starts to explain why this is not my most favorite time of the year.

Did I mention our house was poorly insulated so I routinely woke up with white frost on every exposed piece of metal in my bedroom?  No?  How remiss of me.  Did I mention that once we started high school, we were expected to walk just under a mile to the highway to catch our bus… regardless of the weather?  No?  Perhaps now you begin top understand my antipathy towards s**w?

Yes, it’s decided.  I shall blame it entirely on my childhood. Unfortunately, that still doesn’t get the s**w out of my driveway.  Nor does it keep my little tosies warm while I do it.  On the brighter side, it’s done for today.  So far, no Tylenol, but I think I’ll take it to work….. just in case.

Summer’s Over, Autumn’s Waning. Loving Each Day, Not Complaining.

I know this picture doesn’t look like, but it’s getting close to the end of the season at my trailer.  I’m going to miss it.  It’s peaceful, quiet and incredibly relaxing.  As you can see, it’s just plain beautiful.  Today was a gorgeous, sunny day.  The first after several days of rain.  So Lynn and I took out our cameras when we walked our dog.

We took our time.  Shot some photos, chatted with our neighbors, and sat in the sun and just enjoyed the day.  It doesn’t get any better than this.

In case anyone is curious I love chipmunks.  I think they are probably the cutest rodents on the planet.  So I try to get pictures of them every chance I get.  Today, Lynn and I lucked out and got some excellent of shots of these two.  Apparently, a mother and a not yet independent offspring.  They were very cute together.  With Lynn’s permission, I will see if I can post a couple of her shots next time.  She got some incredible ones as well.

Did I mention I LOVE chipmunks?  Seeing these two made a great day even better!  Nothing like spending a day with my wife, my dog and beauty of nature.  A perfect day:-)

Cheers, Winston
