NAPOWRIMO Day 11

A Joy Deferred

Today the sun came out again,
I always knew it would.
The wind is cold but that’s okay,
Spring’s on it’s way that’s good.

Before too long the days will warm,
The leaves once more appear.
The birds return their lovely songs,
Are what I long to hear.

To feel the grass between my toes,
Brings out my joy within.
Enjoy a beer down on the beach,
The sun upon my skin.

It’s coming soon this happy time,
And I can barely wait.
But the snow this morning says,
That Spring is running late.

Cheers, Winston

NaPoWriMo Day One

So it’s April again and that means National Poetry Writing Month. Once again, I take up the challenge of writing one poem every day for thirty days…. Day One….

FROZEN DREAMS

The late snows melt then freeze again,
They slowly melt away.
A patch of green revealed now,
Gets larger every day.

Our bulky coats are packed away,
Light jackets will suffice.
As browns and greens we start to see,
Instead of snow and ice.

Outside we stroll and take our time,
Instead of rushing in.
We bask in rising vernal warmth,
Sure winter cannot win.

Now feel the sun upon your face,
Now hear the first birds sing.
Now hear the forecast call for snow,
To crush your dreams of spring.

Cheer, Winston
