NaPoWriMo Day 9

At some point all of us have been on the receiving end of someone’s uniformed judgement of us. For that matter, we’ve probably all done it at some point. Making snap judgements of what’s dangerous is a survival skill. But not one we really need any more. Let’s all try to read the book… not just look at the cover.

IGNORE THE JUDGES

No one can see what’s in your heart,

Though they act like they do.

And what it is they think they see,

Decides how they treat you.

They may decide you’re awesome and,

Treat you the very best.

Or maybe find you average and,

Lump you with all the rest.

Sometimes they will decide you are,

The villain of the piece.

Then there’s no effort they won’t make,

Your suff’ring to increase.

But all of this is based on them,

It’s nothing that you’ve done.

For some it is an error true,

But some do it for fun.

Remember this, they are not you,

You’re not just what they see.

Know who you are, be true to you,

And keep your spirit free.

No one can see inside your heart,

My friend except for you.

So look inside, be your best self,

In all you say and do.

Cheers, Winston

NAPOWRIMO Day 30

Commonality

So I believe and know this truth,
I am the same as you.
Not in the way I speak or look
Nor in the things I do.

It’s what we are that is the same,
This we should keep in mind.
And understand the falseness of,
Divisions that you find.

What matter gender, race or creed,
We dream our dreams as one.
To love and laugh and live our lives,
Content when we are done.

So next time someone does you wrong,
Think on your own mistakes.
Remember  They are You and I,
Be kind for all our sakes.

Cheers, Winston

NAPOWRIMO Day 24

Creative Block

It’s happening, that time of year,
A full week yet to go.
My inspiration has dried up,
What will I write? Oh no!

This happens every year to me,
Not sure what I should write.
If I can’t get my head to work,
There’ll be no post tonight.

Somehow the harder that I try,
The less words reach the page.
It’s getting harder everyday,
Enough to make me rage.

But look at this it’s nearly done,
Just in the nick of time.
I hope you like this desperate verse,
This most unwilling rhyme.

Cheers, Winston.

NAPOWRIMO Day 11

A Joy Deferred

Today the sun came out again,
I always knew it would.
The wind is cold but that’s okay,
Spring’s on it’s way that’s good.

Before too long the days will warm,
The leaves once more appear.
The birds return their lovely songs,
Are what I long to hear.

To feel the grass between my toes,
Brings out my joy within.
Enjoy a beer down on the beach,
The sun upon my skin.

It’s coming soon this happy time,
And I can barely wait.
But the snow this morning says,
That Spring is running late.

Cheers, Winston

NaPoWriMo Day Nine

Once again finding myself with no idea what to write, I just started stringing rhymes together.  Sometimes, allowing my mind to wander off and do it’s own thing frees it up to write a far better story than any I might conciously construct.

I hope you enjoy the result.

Lover On The Hill

A tree grows there upon the hill,
Where met my love and I.
A breeze blows there I feel it still,
Beneath a clear blue sky.

I saw her first upon the hill,
I loved her at first sight.
My heart knew then she was the one,
No choice could be more right.

I would spend all my time with her,
Beneath her hilltop tree.
We knew not time nor season there,
My fae consort and me.

My friends all said this should not be,
Some lines should not be crossed.
I would not heed I could not change,
Once found she’d not be lost,

The truth be told I did not wish,
To lose her anyway,
If not for hate we’d be there still,
Unto this very day,

My friends grew more concerned with time,
Concern then turned to fear.
They hatched a plot to cut me lose,
From She I held most dear.

They came with iron and with fire,
To end my lady fae.
And as she died although I lived,
My soul was ripped away.

I steal away with rope in hand,
One last time climb our hill.
I will not live without my fae,
I’ll stay upon our hill.

Cheers, Winston
