NaPoWriMo Day 2
The prompt for day two was to write about a beloved childhood object you still have. I didn’t have much as a kid, and less still has made it this far with me. But books are something I tend to hold onto. One in particular fit this.
The Collected Works of Rudyard Kipling
You’ve been a friend these many years
From you so much I learned
Were once together every day
Those pages so fast turned
We’d visit less as time went on
Your fickle friend it’s true
Yet any new friend that I made
Compared them all to you
You made me laugh and made me think
Sometimes you made me cry
The friends I’ve made since first we met
Must these things as least try.
Just this past week I sat with you
Thought hard upon your age
And understood some things you taught
Were best left on the page
Still, there is much that’s good in you
Good lessons to be learned
So, I’ll still visit time to time
‘Til my last page is turned.
Cheers,
