NaPoWriMo 2026 Day 26
Stories My Body Tells Pt. 1
Near forty years ago or so
One sunny summer day
Was walking with a friend of mine
Just chatting on our way.
On railway tracks we strolled along
Not thinking much at all
I stumbled on the clinkers there
And took a nasty fall.
At first I thought “That’s not so bad.”
But then I saw the blood
There seemed an awful lot of it
But still, was not a flood.
My wrist had hit a piece of slag
And edge just like a blade
Had peeled the skin like a filet
Sure, quite the show it made.
The tendons, veins and all the rest
Laid bare for all to see
And when I showed it to my chum
He almost murdered me.
It seems that blood was not his thing
It made him gag like hell
I though it was hilarious
He didn’t take that well.
The hospital, they stitched me up
After a decent wait
Then sent me on my way again
With pills to pain abate.
I’ve not seen him these many years
But never will forget
For with this scar he’s evergreen
There on my wrist inset.
Cheers,
