NaPoWriMo Day 18
Streetlights
Streetlights flicker, flicker fade
Trapped within this dark new made
What’s that sound I stand dismayed
For faintest light my soul would trade
Streetlights always, always shine
Invisible when all is fine
Constant lights our nights define
Now with their loss I shrink supine
Streetlights gone now, gone now black
What creeps now near me to attack
Please God bring those streetlights back
That sound! Just like a twig might crack!
Streetlights I beg, I beg glow
Give light, bring sight that I may know
Light to counter fears that grow
In this darkness, that I fear so
Streetlights flicker, flicker on
I realized they had not gone
“Twas my time to pass beyond
Look at my corpse, then outward drawn
Streetlights burning, burning still
In distant city on a hill
Burn for all and always will
Their precious light forever spill
Cheers,
